The Berean Baptist College Education Department
At Berean Baptist College, our Education Department is one that truly “scorns mediocrity and embraces excellence.” With a solid foundation in Bible courses, the school of education branches out to encompass various areas of study with greater emphasis being placed on the major course of study. A teaching degree at Berean Baptist College is not something that is nonchalantly given to a student just for the sake of giving them a degree. Teaching in the Christian school setting is influencing young minds of the next generation, and it is not something to be taken glibly as just another occupation in the ministry. We desire to see our students succeed in teaching in the ministry, and our School of Education is designed to help our students to do just that – embrace excellence.
The Education Department is broken up into two major branches with a major being selected under each branch. These courses of study are primary education (elementary school) and secondary education (high school). A student may choose to take primary education and there receive classes geared to help develop the student’s skills to be able to teach in an elementary school setting. Likewise, a student may choose to take courses in secondary education and there will receive classes geared toward helping to develop the skills needed to teach in a high school setting.
The culmination of the educational degree at Berean Baptist College is found in the semester of student teaching, which is a vital prerequisite to graduation. By having our students observe the elementary and high school teachers of Berean Christian Academy, our students are given the opportunity to interact with people who are already working in the same ministry as their chosen field of study. After a short period of observing the teachers in the academy, the college students will teach the class, under the supervision of the academy teachers, for the rest of the semester. This hands-on approach in having our students take part in teaching at our Christian academy is just one more area where our students get to realize what being in the ministry is truly all about – people. Any student who believes God has placed in their heat the calling to teach should seriously consider the benefit and blessing to learn under the guidance of our professors in Berean Baptist College’s Education Department.
